Kings Heath Boxing Club Set to Become Community Wellness Hub
Plans unveiled for community Wellness Hub at former Kings Heath Boxing Club
Kings Heath Residents Association CIC Directors Tracey Wilson Cllr John East are working with the NHS and Northamptonshire Sport on plans to transform the North Oval building into a community-focused Wellness Hub.
Plans are being developed to give the former Kings Heath Boxing Club in Northampton a new purpose supporting the health and wellbeing of local residents.
Kings Heath Residents Association CIC has announced that it is working with the NHS and Northamptonshire Sport to establish a Wellness Hub at the former boxing club on North Oval.
If the project is delivered as proposed, the association says it would be the first facility of its kind in Northamptonshire, bringing activities, services and community support together in one location.
A community-led vision
The project is being shaped around the needs of local people, with the association committed to ensuring residents have a meaningful voice in deciding how the building should be used.
Detailed plans have not yet been released, but the development could provide a permanent and welcoming space where people can access wellbeing activities, community groups and support services closer to home.
The association wants the facility to reflect what Kings Heath residents genuinely want and need, with local involvement expected to play an important part in its development.
The announcement marks a potentially significant step for an area whose residents have long called for greater investment, improved facilities and more opportunities for children, families and older people.
Giving a valued building a new purpose
Kings Heath Boxing Club has a proud sporting history and was once recognised far beyond Northampton for producing successful amateur competitors.
In 2017, the club’s boxers won five gold medals and were named the best team at the prestigious Haringey Box Cup, overcoming competition from some of Europe’s largest clubs.

The idea of opening the North Oval building to more of the community is not new. As far back as 2016, club representatives discussed providing activities for local children, beginners, women and families. The proposed Wellness Hub could now carry that ambition forward, preserving the building’s community purpose while adapting it to meet a broader range of local needs.
Residents working for residents
Kings Heath Residents Association describes itself as a volunteer-led, non-profit community organisation dedicated to supporting Kings Heath and its surrounding areas.
It works to bring residents together, listen to local concerns and connect people with the organisations best placed to help. Its wider ambitions include youth activities, gardening groups, mental-health support, litter picking, community events and opportunities for residents of all ages.

The organisation formally became a Community Interest Company in October 2025. Companies House records show that it is an active CIC limited by guarantee, providing a formal structure through which community projects and partnerships can be developed.
Its work demonstrates a growing determination among residents to improve Kings Heath by working together and taking an active role in the future of the estate.
Shaping the next chapter
The Wellness Hub remains at the development stage, and further details about funding, refurbishment, services and opening dates are expected as the project progresses.
However, the announcement offers an early indication of what could be achieved when residents, public-health organisations and community partners work towards a shared goal.
For Kings Heath, the transformation of a familiar building could represent more than a physical renovation. It could provide a lasting place where people receive support, build friendships and take an active part in shaping the future of their neighbourhood.
